conspiracy theories as well as promote outright misleading info and falsehoods, to the point where it cost him his job at Fox.

Maybe being a successful commentator does not necessarily equate to high intelligence - perhaps you're just giving him too much credit and ignoring a fourth possibility - he's not that bright.
