Got drafted 53 years ago today. Had just got out of Mizzou undergrad. Had turned down flying F-4s AF as a 6 yr 4 mos commitment The day I got drafted reported to Mart Bldg in Stl. Ha us count off by 3 s and 2s were Marines. You could trade but as a 1 (Army) I passed. I wanted the Navy OCS but didn’t get an offer until week 7 and passed

Supposed to get Infantry 11B but last week got crypto school at Ft Monmouth NJ —using computers before they were in the public domain to encrypt voice (KY-38) and hard copy (KW-7). 90% were failing the course so they took 10 college grad draftees and tried us. We all passed

Got out in 1973 with the GI Bill. My reserve unit (in DC) was called back for the fall of Saigon in 1975 but I passed as was in law school and they had ended the draft. Why should I go twice to VN when others didn’t have to ever go as they had ended the draft. Got my DD-214 in 1977 so no harm no foul
