I follow NASCAR and they talk about this a lot on the talk channels. A lot of tracks they do a 3 PM start because that is what tv wants, but at tracks with no lights, any rain delay makes them shorten the race or postpone it to the next day, plus fans do not like leaving so late.

When tv pays the bills, they dictate the starting times, and they know quite well, especially now with more streaming, and the stats are much more accurate
