a very popular poster here tried to insist otherwise some years ago and was a bit gnarly when these points were shared with him - and now that more folks have these cars and can see what batteries do and don't do in all conditions ... it's much worse than advertised.
I have plenty of friends and some family that tried them out - pretty much the gamut of use cases - and it can basically replace a volkswagen beetle (and that, very very well).
Americans purchase most of their cars on extrinsic value - the ability to do many optional things well enough - hence the popularity of SUVs and trucks. We were pushed into the suburbs by a variety of public-induced conditions and the bigger cars/trucks are safer, they can handle ferrying stuff for yardwork etc., and can manage some vacation travel. This is lost on Europeans and the effete snobs who think Europe has it all figured out
