I really do think that Republicans got behind Trump in 2016 because he wasn't afraid to win.

Call it "The Art of the Deal" or whatever you might want, but he wasn't afraid to take on HRC aggressively with gloves off. He spoke in exactly the daring tones which grass-roots RNC voters hoped their party's candidate would finally speak.

Contrasting, Romney in 2012, McCain in 2008 were, IMO, "fine with" losing by a respectable margin in the popular vote -- say, 52% to 48%. They were "fine with" not going whatever extra mile it took to win -- both of them, "honorable losers."

Back in the 2016 Primary stages, Rubio and/or Cruz seemed promising going in. One might've thought they very favorably "checked demographic boxes" inside the RNC, both having Latino or Texican, etc., heritage. Both seemed "rising stars" within the RNC. But both seemed to fold quickly under Trump's "balls to the walls" salvo.

Trump's appeal to the Very Right wing of the RNC remains that he's not afraid to win. Lawsuits against him? "So what??" Indictments against him? "So what??" Despicable in his verbals and his demeanor? "So what??"

Right or wrong; sad, bad or glad; Trump gets away with being both reckless AND strong.
