Constitution preventing a State from leaving the union. The SC, as one of the three branches of the U.S. gov't had a vested interest in maintaining the Union as it was before the WBTS. Our court system had a natural bias against any State desiring to leave the union. In the end it came down to force of arms and the northern States outnumbered and outmanned the Southern States.
