top ranked conference champions.

if the playoff were this year, the winners of the SEC, B1G, ACC and PAC are certainly in, but both Tulane (AAC) and Liberty (C-USA) are ranked pretty damn close to the remaining b12 teams. taking texas and oklahoma out of the b12 schedule also removes any hope of a marquee win and puts their SoS pretty much on par with the G5 conferences. i could easily see a future where there are several G5 schools ranked above the future b12 champ, leaving the b12 out of the playoff yet again.
