The only sport I follow is National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing. (I haven’t watched a football game in over 40 years and I would fall asleep if I tried to watch a baseball game.)

The final race of the year will be held on November 9-12 at the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip in California. Because this is Veterans Day weekend, there will be a weekend-long celebration of veterans and special promotions:

“While supplies last, fans will be given a special limited-edition NHRA Challenge Coin in Pomona that salutes our veterans and showcases NHRA’s longtime support of the armed forces. A one-off Veteran’s Day event T-shirt will also be available for purchase at the NHRA NitroMall in Pomona, with proceeds going to Veterans Ticket Foundation, a veterans support organization that purchases tickets for active military, veterans, and their families.

Veterans will also be able to utilize a separate red-carpet box office window at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip to purchase tickets during the weekend, allowing for quick and convenient access during the memorable race. NHRA and race teams will host veteran VIPs throughout the event as well, including highly decorated veterans, Gold Star Families, and more.

Additional Veteran’s Day pageantry throughout the weekend will include a pre-race flyover on Championship Sunday from the Condor Squadron, which features three planes from World War II, and more at the famed finale in Southern California.”

“We’re extremely honored to celebrate our military on Veteran’s Day during our event, and we also have a great fanbase that is always proud to support our veterans,” said Evan Jonat, NHRA Vice President of Live Events.

Should we celebrate veterans on Veterans Day weekend? Should we celebrate veterans on Veterans Day? Should we celebrate veterans on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Flag Day, or any other day?

Of course not.

Why should we celebrate veterans?

Should we celebrate them just for joining the military?

Should we celebrate them blindly following orders?

Should we celebrate them fighting undeclared wars?

Should we celebrate them going to countries they had no business going to?

Should we celebrate them fighting unjust wars?

Should we celebrate them making widows and orphans?

Should we celebrate them bombing countries that posed no threat to the United States?

Should we celebrate them for helping to carry out a reckless, belligerent, and meddling foreign policy?

Should we celebrate them for occupying countries?

Should we celebrate them for fighting foreign wars?

Should we celebrate them for engaging in offense instead of defense?

Should we celebrate them for policing the world?

Should we celebrate them for destroying foreign industry, infrastructure, and culture?

Should we celebrate them for killing civilians?

Should we celebrate them for being the president’s personal attack force?

Should we celebrate them for being a global force for evil?

Should we celebrate them for fighting immoral wars?

Should we celebrate them for their service?

Should we celebrate them for voluntarily joining an evil institution?

Should we celebrate them for helping them to create more terrorists, insurgents, and militants?

Should we celebrate them for fighting senseless wars?

Should we celebrate them for bombing, maiming, and killing for the government?

Should we celebrate them for wasting taxpayer dollars?

Should we celebrate them for patronizing a network of brothels around the world?

Should we celebrate them for playing golf on U.S. military golf courses in Okinawa?

Should we celebrate them for their high rates of divorce, homelessness, sexual assault, alcoholism, drug abuse, or suicide?

Of course not.

Then why should we celebrate veterans?

Most Americans would say we should celebrate veterans for

• keeping us safe
• protecting America
• defending our freedoms
• fighting over there so we don’t have to fight over here
• protecting and defending the Constitution

But since veterans do none of these things, I ask again: Why should we celebrate veterans?

There is no reason to celebrate veterans. Not on Veterans Day weekend. Not on Veterans Day. Not on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Flag Day, or any other day.
