political party as something else entirely. Doesn't seem like what the Republican party morphed into is salvageable at this point. Not sure there any 'best moves' left on the table.

But in terms of what happened with John Boehner, Paul Ryan, and McCarthy its pretty clear how things will end with whomever becomes the next Republican Speaker of the House. At some point they will try and do something marginally mature and bipartisan because they have actual responsibilities and they will be ousted for it.
