We would likely sweep them, and we very nearly did that. It was a little disappointing we didn’t finish them off in set 3 when we had the chance, and that we gave up a big lead in set 4 and nearly got taken to a 5th set. Yeah they were picked over us in the preseason poll but 11 instead of 12 in a 13 team conference isn’t much of a difference.
My expectation is our ceiling this year is to finish at least in 9th place (ahead of Alabama, SC, Ole Miss and Miss St), and possibly in 8th place by finishing ahead of either LSU or TAMU (most likely LSU). And finish at or close to .500 in the conference. That would be a significant improvement, given what Sullivan faced when coming here. I just think doing much better than that is a stretch, given the depth this year with Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia and Auburn at the top.
Not sure Tennessee isn’t going to give Florida a run for the title, they swept Kentucky on the road today, and have an extremely favorable schedule. And Georgia has a huge road win over GT and today took #3 Florida to 5 sets, in Gainsville, very impressive.
Agree they are much improved over last year, although you could make a reasonable argument that the 3 best players who transferred are all better than anyone on the team now, which says a lot about how Sullivan has the team playing.
