AVCA rankings out today have 5 SEC teams in the top 25:
3 Florida
15 Tennessee
16 Arkansas
21 Kentucky
24 Auburn
Also TAMU is receiving a lot of votes, is the 8th team out of the top 25. They were picked to finish 8th in the SEC this year, behind both Georgia (picked 4) and LSU (picked 6).
Some significant results for these top teams from last week:
Auburn lost at home 3-1 to SE LA, and somehow moved from #25 to #24, go figure.
Tennessee continues to impress, swept a good Marquette team on the road, who has been in the top 25 most of the season and is now #29. Real quality win.
TAMU split, beating a decent Northern Iowa team 3-0, then falling 3-1 to a decent TCU team (that starts former Mizzou player Riley Buckley at setter).
Arkansas also continues to impress, had a really good win 3-2 over Western Kentucky, who is #30 in the AVCA poll and starts former Mizzou player Kaylee Cox.
Kentucky has had a killer schedule, and last week beat #22 Houston 3-1 and lost to #17 Purdue on the road in an epic 5 set match, losing the last one 18-16.
Still some significant matches for these top teams coming up in this last week of non conference play:
Kentucky plays #2 Louisville and #4 Nebraska.
Florida is at FSU and gets #1 Wisconsin at home.
TAMU plays #22 Houston.
Georgia plays at #10 Georgia Tech.
Still think if everything comes together for Mizzou and we keep improving, our ceiling is most likely somewhere in the 6-8 range in the SEC, the conference is getting tougher with more depth. A top 5 finish is just too much this year with Tennessee and Arkansas playing so well and Auburn improved so much over two years ago. The teams we need to beat are in the group of Georgia, LSU and TAMU. Feel pretty good about us not finishing 13th as predicted, and finishing at least ahead of Ole Miss, Miss St and SC, who were all picked ahead of us.
