I think he’ll be gone in a year or two, hope I’m wrong, but here’s what I’ve observed:
- he is an exceptional recruiter, can’t argue with that
- he held on to play calling duties way too long — it was obvious he needed to to delegate this job
- he always seem overly cocky or worried about being the funniest, coolest guy in an interview. I don’t like coaches who think they’re celebrities. Gary Pinkel was unbelievably dry and boring in interviews, but man, his teams showed up to play and didn’t drop stupid unexpected games. During a SEC network interview, Drink showed up in a black suit with black/gold Jordan shoes. He looked like a celebrity that spent all night picking out his clothes.
- I think Drink is too young, immature and inexperienced for this role. I hope we do a better job on the next hire, getting someone with some HC experience. I think he has a low ceiling for success and will not breakout the way we need to him in an incredibly challenging league.
