Again, using the population of Missouri isn't fair.

The vast majority of the population is sitting on the border and is tied to other fan bases.

I'm not saying Missouri has more to do, but professional sports do take away from fandom of college athletics. If you don't have a choice close, you tend to like college sports more than professional and that's where your time and money goes.
