there is little correlation between recruiting rankings and wins until you get to classes ranked #50 or worse:

And if you step back and think about it, it makes sense. These are 17-18 year old kids and since the difference between many of these classes is a few kids being a 3.8 versus a 3.6, something Rivals and 247 are not really precise enough to measure, you get effectively a giant mass.
As long as Mizzou is recruiting in that 20-40 pack it's far more about coaching and developing players. That's how Pinkel was able to go to 4 conference title games and Barry Odom couldn't with not much difference in their recruiting rankings.
Of course being top 10/5 yearly, like Georgia and Alabama and Ohio St is highly correlated with wins, generally.
