When the people are divided, several of their followers will scream out that the government punish their critics/opposition and enable further gubmint expansion and abuse of power. This is not exclusive to a certain side, but I will use the most obvious example on this board. JG is, far and away, the board's biggest gubmint simp. Now that his team is in charge, he has gone full tyrant and has openly celebrated the imprisonment of his political opposition, and even the execution of his political opposition while declaring the executioner "deserves a medal". He also has celebrated the illness-related deaths of his political opponents, and played right along with the demands that these people also be segregated from society. And if you or your business "pollutes".....you deserve excessive fines and regulation, or deserve to be shut down.

This is why the gubmint wants division.
