instant recognizability without any words or phrases. I personally love it. The "M" to me is boring.

Also the "yellow" is simply another shade of gold. Face it we aren't wearing "old gold" anymore. Few teams do. I think part of it is financial and marketing of gear. Old gold is expensive and limited. Iowa has a shade of gold that's not old gold.
