And there probably isn't much they can do about it.
It's well known most NFL contracts are not guaranteed, especially in full. The Biils thr NFLPA, and the NFL have worked out a deal to pay Damars full salary even though his contract includes a split for being on IR. The basically had no choice because the PR optics of not doing so given what happened dictated this.
The big issue is now that they've done it for 1 player, they are gonna find themselves in a bad place the very next time a mid level non fully guaranteed player aka those that aren't 1st or 2nd round picks gets hurt and ends up on IR.
In a nutshell, this may end being the catalyst that forces all NFL owners to fully guarantee all contracts, and pretty much NONE of them will want to do that financially.
We shall see how this shakes out, but I wouldn't want to be the NFL or a team owner when contract negotiations start coming up again going forward.
