It won’t help our tourney resume one bit. ASU isn’t anything close to a top 50 type team, maybe somewhere in the 75-100 range. Still, we took care of business against an inferior team, on the road, which is a good sign.
Hansen and Frank carried us all weekend, good to see them both get their shooting touches back.
No reason now we can’t go 12-1 in non conference play, with just 3 home games left against Omaha, Jackson St and Illinois. Although it might not be the cakewalk it looked like before the season started. And we have struggled in a few games at home so far.
Jackson St is just 2-4 on the year, but they are fearless, they won’t be in awe of us at all in Columbia. They have already played 5 P5 teams, all on the road, beat Texas Tech, lost to #6 North Carolina by 32, lost to #15 UCLA by only 72-60, lost to Colorado by 24, lost to Oregon St by 10.
Illinois was just awful last year, worst team in the B1G, but this year they are 7-2, against a light schedule up until today. Lost previously to a decent Delaware team by 3, but today was a real shocker. They went into #5 Indiana and nearly pulled a huge upset, led by 1 with less than a minute to go before IU scored the last 5 points for a 64-61 win. Maybe that was just a fluke, but it puts our game with them in a whole new light.
