Had he moderated on other things he could have used that to his advantage. Instead, he doubled down if not more and was only saved by Joe Manchin from further fiscal disaster. And he alienated moderate dems and independents who hoped he would not go back on his vow to be a unifier in the middle. He had a real opportunity to be a uniting figure. Instead, he folded and will pay the price.
