They were straight up bad. 9-36 the 4 years before Alvarez.

Grand total of 5 winning seasons from 1964 to 1992 before Barry got it rolling. And 4 of those were 81-84 with decent 7 win seasons. Other than that, complete garbage for basically a 3 decade stretch.
