The year they show their hand. They will either extend his contract and show that they believe in him and he has a couple more years to show something. Or they don't extend and let him know, you are coaching for your job in year 4.Then set expectations.
Of course, if they think it's hopeless and he ends the season with 2 or 3 wins and the losses weren't competitive, they could drop the hammer after this season.
Yes, his seat is warm. Any coach 3 years in that hasn't improved much, if at all, is on a warm seat. It's all about the money and the results. $4-$5million a year to be non productive, no business is going to eat that cost for long.
