more accurate. Acceptable is fine until somebody claims that the acceptable answer is more accurate than the correct answer.
the original name for the play is hook and ladder. it references the routes and nod to firefighting tools that are used together like the two parts of the play work together. It's also a more concise and linguistically smoother phrase.
It did not start being called hook and lateral until later on when people who thought they were smarter than everybody else tried to change it to a slang term that was associated with football but made sense in layman's terms.

Most people still say hook and ladder.
