you should be able to hear it hum. The technology they used was fascinating, it's run by a consistent sound wave created by a tuning fork that has about 90 meters of copper in it. It was by far the most accurate mass produced watch in the world at the time. The case on the back should have an 'N1' if it was made in 1971. If it was made earlier it would say 'N0' for 1970 or 'M9' for 1969 etc.
I've tried to buy the space view version (it has no face so you can see the tuning fork and movement) of it several times but haven't been willing to pay what they ended up going for.
