Last year we gave up 435 yards per game which ranked 106 in the nation.
In order to be an average defense on a national level, we need to cut it down to about 380 yards per game. Based on the number of big plays we gave up last year, especially early, that 55 yards per game could feasibly only be two or three plays. And if those two or three plays prevent one touchdown per game, we are 8-4 and look more competitive in some of the other games.
So, if our defense this year can simply be average and stay under 400 yards per game and our quarterback play is even 10 or 15% better, it should not be a problem for us to win eight games.
