guns out of the hands of blacks and indigenous peoples, since the law at the time didn't allow them to own firearms. The amendment was crafted to allow slave owners more power to crush rebellions from those people they had enslaved. White people were part of the militia; blacks could not be part of the militia, so they had no right to own a gun.
