They're coming off a three game series in which they scored 26 runs and gave up 27 runs. I'm not saying the hitting coach shouldn't have been fired but how Cal Eldred isn't the first guy fired is almost comical.
Since 2018 (the year Eldred was hired) KC has invested 5 first round picks in pitchers, many of the college pitchers who should have a fairly quick path the MLB. They're drafted one position player in that time period (Witt Jr). I bet most of their 2nd round picks have been pitchers as well.
Dayton Moore has said the currency in baseball is pitching and the Royals have invested in it heavily since 2018 and they really don't have much to show for it.
This would be like building a NFL team by only drafting defensive players and building your offense around undrafted free agents and being terrible both offensively and defensively but just firing the OC because clearly he's the problem.
Royals ownership is going to have to step in to fix things, not sure Moore or Matheny have it in them to fire their buddy.
