The media whose job it is to call out government overreach instead jumped in for purely political reasons.
The teachers union used this for a political power grab. But that is their usual MO. Teachers actually care about the health and well being of thier students, unions don't give a shìt about the kids.
The feds started out two years ago with decent motives. Once they saw the power that could be gained they kicked it into overdrive. They only do this far because they have little impact in most of our day to day lives.
I think the local school boards and health departments had public safety in mind but were being fed bad info from the CDC and based their decisions too much off of media reports. State politicians were a mixed bag Red states did well, purple states fumbled early but seemed to recover and blue states were ridiculous.
