Lord of the Rings has an avid fanbase. If they screw it up in the name of diversity we will definitely hear the outroar.
I don't really care what the cast of a show looks like if they tell a good story. But when they change characters only to make the show more diverse it almost always negatively impacts the product. I think Wheel of Time was an obvious example of them doing that.
