“He walked into my office and said, ‘I have an opportunity to go to the NFL,’” Pinkel said, referencing the end of that 2008 season. “I said, ‘Is that what you want to do? You’ve thought that out?’”
Pinkel gave Eberflus a piece of advice. There are a lot more head coaching jobs in college football than the NFL. But Eberflus insisted. The Cleveland Browns wanted him to come coach their linebackers. It was a chance to make the jump to the ladder he felt determined to climb.
“Coach, that has always been my dream,” Eberflus told Pinkel.
That was all Pinkel needed to hear.
“Go for it,” he told Eberflus.
