It is absolutely analogous.

Historically you have real difficulty when presented with sound logical arguments that contradict your poor reasoning.

Basically you want Potter to be guilty because you don't like police or any other authority. But just because you want her to be guilty doesn't mean that she actually is guilty under the law. Your problem is recognizing the law to begin with.
