This is a disturbing trend in college football. No loyalty, no pride. It's all about me getting mine.
If the bowl games no longer mean anything, get rid of them and expand the playoff. In recent years we have watered-down our schedule with FCS and directional schools to help ensure bowl eligibility. Personally I would rather play some marquee non-con games as opposed to sneaking into a Wednesday afternoon bowl game with fewer fans than many high school games.
