Overall probably better than anticipated. Good showing for the first game, particularly with 3 players out.

I thought the crowd, particularly the student section, was impressive. Tip of the cap to the students, keep that energy up and I may have to stop bagging on their apathy levels. I'm not sure what the difference is for this year but for game 1 they brought it.

Not having a pg is going to be a bigger issues for this team than I initially thought, and I thought it was going to be a big problem. There is no creators on this roster, and since we don't run any half court sets and have no post presence if opponents just get back on defense its really problematic for us to generate any kind of looks. There are going to be a lot of prolonged instances where we struggle to get field goals.

I suspect Gordon playing will change the complexion of the team considerably, his absence probably impacted quite a bit out there.

Amari Davis is kind of a poor man's Keion Bell, liked what I saw out of him. He seems like he can bring consistent scoring game to game, will be difficult for opponents to keep him off the scoreboard.

Coleman has kind of a quite calmness to his game, and he is probably our most talented player. He will be fine in SEC play.

Obviously really liked the energy that DeGray brings to the table, but it wasn't just clumsy hustle energy he is skilled as well. Kind of a tweener so it will be interesting to see how his game translates but there is no substitute for simply playing harder than everyone else and knowing how to be in the right place at the right time.

Pickett definitely looks like a leader out there. He kind of has a tendency to get banged up and wear down as the season progresses, will be interesting to see if he can handle that kind of minute load consistently.

Our post players are going to be an issue, I'm not sure we have any answers there. Even Kobe struggled quite a bit and looks a bit out of shape to me, and I'm not sure any of the other options are realistically dependable at this point. I think we are going to get spurts of Wilmore/Keita without much production, and otherwise be an incredibly small team.

Cuonzo commented in the postgame that he didn't mind teams going to zone at all, that it didn't worry/bother him. That is kind of weird because we looked terrible against the zone, like we had no answers at all. In the second half when they started getting back on defense and forcing us into half court sets we couldn't get anything going and pretty much lived on garbage buckets and free throws from that point forward. That was a pretty subpar defensive opponent and it is concerning how effectively they were able to just shut us down for long stretches.

1-0 though, lots of new players got their first action under their belts. Any hope that Cuonzo simply had accumulated the wrong type of players and this roster reset was going to mean more alignment to his style and a better overall product is kind of out the window though. We look the same, just smaller and with less overall talent. Still just no offensive design at all, but maybe more flexibility defensively. The no pg thing is going to be crippling though.
