...and I wonder if it was a live shot ... wouldn't you expect it would be loaded with blanks?

I have no idea of the context, and I'm no fan of his, but I can see where an actor would be ordered to shoot toward the camera for a shot.

So I just wonder what was in the gun, what the script called for him to do, was the camera rolling, etc...
