Option A
"It is remarkable and sad we not only openly celebrate their significant mental impairment, but we elevate their social status based upon it."
Option B
"It is remarkable and sad how many in this country not only openly celebrate their significant mental impairment, but also elevate their social status based upon it."
The point is the same with Option A and Option B. The biggest difference is that in Option B, the writer is not including themselves in those thoughts and actions. And even more importantly, is not including EVERYONE in the society with those actions and thoughts.
Why everyone gets so bent out of shape when this collectivist crap is spewed is beyond me. You can make your point the same without speaking on behalf of the entire society. "Most" "Majority of" "A lot". There are all kinds of qualifies that make it not an overreaching statement but holds the point the same.
