little voice in how schools are run.
Superintendents run the show and their policies are usually rubber-stamped by the school board.
I have written curriculum for many different subjects over the years. We are almost always constrained by the state objectives that are always linked to the national standards. We have some latitude in how and when we teach things but very little in what is actually taught.
The exception to this for me has been physics. I have written physics curriculum for four different districts and since there were no state standards and very limited national ones we were allowed to do what we wanted. Physics is not a controversial subject so I don't know that anyone other than the teachers ever look at our curriculum.
