There is an ontological change such that the 23 chromosomes from the mother's ovum and the 23 cells from the father's sperm merge into a new being with 46 chromosomes... a being with a human mother and a human father is, of course, a human being.
The only things needed for that human being to continue to grow and to live are a safe environment and nutrition.
That new human being will go through various phases in his or her life, described differently over the years by different people: embryo, fetus, newborn, infant, toddler, kindergartner, grade schooler, pre-teen, teenager, young adult, middle aged, middle aged (again), senior citizen, elderly.
