for Pinkel to be fired even up until his break out year.

I remember one guy who was upset that they loaded up the out of conference games with patsies and beat up on the weakest teams in the Big 12 to make a bowl game 3 out of his first 6 seasons. That guy said he and his family had been season ticket holders for decades but he was so upset with Pinkel that he was ending the family tradition. That was his breakout year, though.

Many gave great credit to Mike Alden for sticking with him through all of that until they had that big 12-2 year in 2007.

I also remember Pinkel stating that he didn't let the fans influence him or his staff, and he warned his players not to get caught up in the fan drama. He had learned that important tip from Don James. He said that would distract them from the focus they needed to do the best job that they could do.
