screw things up terribly.

There are some interesting reads about how the US came up with the absurd Food Pyramid that was taught in schools and promoted by doctors and throughout the media for years.

It turns out that the Food Pyramid was pretty much upside down, at least with respect to trying to help people reduce their weight to healthy levels.

It was no coincidence, that as some wag put it, the roads were filled with people jogging, everyone switched from butter to margarine, cut back on meat consumption, especially red meat, reduced fat in their diets and ramped up the consumption of grains... and the obesity and diabetic epidemic hit.
