I've heard of bills well in excess of $300k for a bite. And the cost per vial quoted in the article is the wholesale cost to the hospital. The "out the door" price ranges from almost $8k to, and hold on to your britches, almost $40k. Per vial. Of course, like everything else in a hospital, nobody actually pays that. Insurance contract ensure a much more reasonable price is actually paid.
