planned economy are not comparable.

In fact, bad business decisions highlight the importance of free markets because the bad decisions can fail and make way for good decisions. In a planned economy, the inevitable hubris-driven failure of the planners cannot be escaped and the failures compound until there is desolation. There's no competitors to a planned economy.

Also, though unimportant, Sears was in decline well before this guy took over in 2005.
