such as merging with the Pac12 or becoming a 16 team league by merging with the AAC or poaching from the Mountain West, it is good to remember what history has shown us - the Big 12 is ignorant and reactive, ignoring warnings and good advice consistently to their detriment.
The Big 12 began by taking four leftover schools from a crumbling SWC. Only aTm and UT were initially on the table, but the conference kowtowed to Texas legislators and added Baylor and TTech.
Instead of embracing Big 8 heritage, the conference agreed to ignored it entirely and "founded" a new conference. All Big 8 history and records were explicitly excluded from the Big 12, at the behest of Texas schools.
Against the advice of guys like Norm Stewart, the Big 12 members acquiesced again to Texas interests, and moved the conference offices from KC to Dallas, setting the stage for more inequality to come.
They were pitched a Big12 Network before anyone else, and turned it down (see below).
They were warned by Mizzou and other schools about the inequality of the conference. They ignored it.
Then they let UT do the LHN. More warnings, particularly from a vociferous Mizzou. They ignored it.
Then a couple schools left. They ignored it. Then two more left. And they not only ignored issues of equality undermining the conference, instead the remaining schools doubled down and made it more unequal while adding inferior TCU and WVU.
And now inevitably, the two schools (and mainly one - UTex) that they willingly and repeatedly invited to shyt all over the rest of the schools, shat on them again and finally destroyed the conference for all intents and purposes.
The big 12 orchestrated their own demise, and did it knowingly, repeatedly, and in the face of warnings and advice. The dregs that are left are the most ignorant, backward looking, reactive and sycophantic in all of college sports.
To propose that they would somehow be forward thinking or intelligent or creative in addressing their current situation is simply absurd. Remember it whenever anyone proposes the Big 12 doing anything remotely smart.
