versus the party that should calm down or de-escalate a situation.
Not entirely their fault since we have so many laws on the books that they must enforce that should not be on the book. But they are given special immunities to use that force now, and are now trained at precisely when they can use deadly force rather than trained more on de-escalating situations.
As a result, many criminals have now raised their level of threats (weapons, tactics, etc.), and the State has raised it more to the point that police now almost look militarized (thanks in many part to 9-11 funding).
It has gotten out of control.
