The problem with chat shows on hot topics is the topics are not done in an academic format. Academic discussions are more informed and less likely to create emotional turmoil. They also diplomatically teach people their personal and informational blind spots. I agree with many things a few of the hosts on these shows say, but I think they depend too much on second-hand information and gossip. Gossip and second-hand information are not always (but can sometimes be) the best way to gain insight. Lack of correct information can sometimes lead to a lack of judgment.Being overly emotional can sometimes create a lack of judgement.
