By the way, no one has suggested that CM should be recruiting top talent. But no decent P5 team can be built with players that average 2-4 other P5 offers. I don't expect us to out recruit Kentucky for players but when we are fighting MAC teams for players we have a problem.
There are three aspects to coaching college sports
1. Recruiting Talent
2. Developing Individual Players
3. Team X's and O's
If you are going to have a successful program your coach needs to do each of those well and excel in at least one of those areas.
Here is my assessment of CM in each of those areas so far.
1. Recruiting - Year one A+. Since then D
2. Development - D
3. X's & O's - C-
By my estimation CM excels at none of the three areas and is below average in two of them.
