in those communities. Even though the schools were failing I saw successes every day in my classroom. Every year we had a few students who had done the right thing for twelve years and went on to college. Many, not all, of them succeeded and were able to build lives for themselves and, hopefully, their children that allowed them to escape that existence.

If we give up on inner city schools we also give up on those who rely on those failing schools as their only hope of something better. I do believe that we owe those few that chance.
