the 'technical lead' was disciplined and didn't receive the promotion to be her manager (to replace her psuedo father figure 'old boss')
She appear to have felt it took too long and she wasn't kept apprised of the investigation process or the details of his actual punishment.... She also has some 'baggage' that she carried into the job ("... It dredged up the betrayals of my past that I’d gone into tech trying to overcome....")
