It spurs purchasing. People want to pay NOW rather than what it might cost in 6 months. Inflation is bad for banks but it is OK in small doses for most everyone else. Read "Secrets of the Temple, Inside the Federal Reserve" but William Greider, read that in grad school, great book.

If you want to get very depressed read another of his works, "Who'll Tell the People, the Betrayal of American Democracy".
