Certainly those who would try to characterize my response as being that of a communist or reprehensible group would not fit that defintion.

Just the sheer stupidity required to buy in and find oneself at such a location and involved in such an activity would easily disqualify them from being 'normal'. I think you are trying to convey it is becoming 'normalized' in our society to be considerably ignorant, but that requires a significant adjustment to the definition of normal to try and characterize the people involved as such.
