I don't understand why some back government mandates in that regard.

If someone wants to get vaccinated, I don't begrudge them that decision, but I think it is preposterous to maintain that anyone should be able to force someone else to be vaccinated against their will.
I you don't want to catch some disease and think that vaccines are a good safeguard against that disease then go ahead and get vaccinated, but don't think you have a right to force everyone else to get it so that you don't.
