Teach other people's children. It is a responsibility I take seriously and I can say without a doubt that this school system failed that child.

But as a parent I know that my child's education is ultimately my responsibility. My daughter has had her share of poor teachers over the years. As parents we stepped in and either addressed the teacher or worked with our daughter to overcome the deficiencies.

This kid missed classes 272 times in three years. Most schools have a 170-ish day school year. This kid missed classes roughly half the time. That is not the schools fault. I can not teach a kid who is not in my class. This woman failed her child with the help of the school system but ultimately the responsibility rests with her.
